A J. Crew wedding!

Sep 29, 2009

I am just nuts over Heather's {check out her wedding blog here} fashion choices for her bridesmaids and flower girls. Everything looks so crisp and clean and so very energetic! Love!

It should come as no surprise that all the dresses {and the flower girls' headbands} came from J. Crew ... I mean, the photos totally look like they were ripped out of a J. Crew catalogue and could there possibly be a better compliment than that?

Real wedding: Stephanie and Cliff

Sep 28, 2009

Stephanie and Cliff were married on August 15, 2009, in central Pennsylvannia at a quaint manor house overlooking beautiful lush lawns - the perfect setting for their adorable picnic-style wedding.

Now I'll turn it over to Stephanie so she can share some of the sweet details with you:

It was so fun for me to get ready at the {venue} because I could run outside and see the army of friends and family that showed up that morning to help set up and decorate.

We knew it would be hot so we arranged to serve {the guests} Rita's Italian Ice before the ceremony. After dinner, we served Penn State Creamery ice cream and sent them away with cookies and milk. The cookies were made by aunts and friends and were ... paired with the best milk in the world from Myers Dairy, where they sell local fresh milk in glass bottles!

The sparkler send off was such a last minute decision but it was such a rush to drive down the long driveway seeing all the faces of the people I love the most lit up by sparklers.

So lovely! Congratulations, Stephanie and Cliff! If you'd like to see more photos from the wedding, head over to Missy Photography right here.

A Sunday kind of Love ...

Card boxes from For the Modern Bride

Sep 26, 2009

One thing a lot of engaged couples don't think about or overlook while planning their wedding is the card box. J&I were one of those couples and if I had it to do over again, I would make sure we had some sort of card box at the reception to create a bit more order at the end of the night.

So when I heard about a company offering custom and couture boxes, I knew I had to share. For the Modern Bride prides itself on creating card boxes made specifically to the client's specific color palette and style. The boxes include fabrics, ribbons, silks, rhinestones and other embellishments. Other options like embroidery, custom logos, rhinestone monograms and Swarovski toppers are also available.

And they also offer custom stationery - from save the dates and invitations, to menu cards and programs, to dance floor decals and canvas bags, they've got you covered:

Check out all they have to offer right here.

What a prize! Vintage Horse Show Ribbons for Wedding Events

I am so jealous of Heather's awesome find of a box full of vintage horse show ribbons at the Rose Bowl flea market! They are so girly and oh-so-pretty!

I think they'd be so fun to give out as prizes at a bridal or baby shower. How would you use them?

Celebrating 50!

Sep 23, 2009

I absolutely adore the idea of planning a celebration for a couple's 50th anniversary {found on Notes from a Cottage Industry} ... can you imagine being married for that long?! Such a sweet, sweet milestone and definitely reason to pop some bubbly. Love how this shindig was done up with details reminiscent of the couple's wedding day. The cake was created in the style of their original cake and it is so lovely:

So who's going to throw their parents an anniversary party now? If you do, send me photos! And to see more from this beautiful party, click here.

Non-wedding interruption

This is Churchill and his story just broke my heart:

{Full story + video here}

A teenager may be facing charges in a horrific case of animal cruelty. Police believe the teen set a 2-year-old English Bulldog on fire at a home on the city's south side earlier this week. Animal Care Services is now asking for your help in caring for him. They need donations to help pay for his medical treatments. Those treatments could cost up to $10,000. Once Churchill is well enough, he will be put up for adoption.

If you want to help Churchill, send your donation to:
"Churchill's Fund"

Animal Care Services
4710 State Highway 151
San Antonio, Texas 78227

{Full story + video here}

I honestly don't understand the motivation or reasoning behind cruel acts like this but I'd like to try and create a small bit of good from something so sad and destructive.

So, I thought I'd try and do a few things to raise a little money for his treatments:
  • For the next few months, I'll be donating half of the proceeds from my custom inspiration boards to Churchill's Fund so if you're in need of some inspiration and want to help out, just shoot me an e-mail.

  • Also, if you have a service or product you'd like featured in a giveaway on CB and help Churchill ... message me. I have a few ideas and would love to talk to you.
  • Or if you have any other ideas, let me know.

New Crew

Sep 19, 2009

These two looks from J. Crew are so polished yet still very alluring ... I'd love to see a bride-to-be wear fun separates like these for a rehearsal dinner. And I think I may scoop up the first outfit just because. ;o)

Fur collar for sale

Sep 18, 2009

I love admiring the styles of screen sirens from the 1940s and 1950s and I simply can't help falling in love with the glamorous furs that so many actresses donned back in the day. When modern-day brides wrap a luxe fur around them to ward off a chill, I'm always reminded of legends like Grace Kelly and Marilyn Monroe.

Since moving to Mississippi, fur just doesn't fit in with the heat and humidity, so I thought I'd see if I could pass my beloved fur collar on to a winter bride desiring a bit of warmth and decadence to add to her wedding day attire:

If you're interested, just e-mail me for pricing + details. SOLD!
p.s. It's vintage fur so your conscience can stay clear! ;o)

Vintage bottles = Fab centerpieces

Sep 15, 2009

Love the pastel hues of these vintage bottles and I think the natural aquas and amethysts create a cheery wedding palette all on their own ... perfect just as they are to use in clusters as centerpieces.

If you're thinking about starting your own collection of antique bottles + vases for your wedding, make sure you check out CB Vintage, a fun little shop that's stemmed out of my many antiquing excursions. There's quite a bit of milk glass and European floral vessels in stock!

Wall graphic winner!

Sep 12, 2009

The two lucky ducks of the UPrinting wall graphic contest are ...

Katie, who said ... I would make a wall graphic sticker of the photo I recently posted on my wedding blog ... of my great grandmother and me, to put on the wall near my desk.

The photo is just beautiful:

and I just have to share a bit of what Katie wrote on her blog. Such a beautiful life story:

This is my great-grandmother, Hildred.
She was born in 1908.
She got married in the Great Depression.
She sent her sons off to WWII.
She lost a husband of 30 years to a heart attack.
She raised 4 children, and now her descendants number: 76--including 1(+1/2!) great-great-grandchildren.
She married her elementary school sweetheart at the age of 69. (he found her after all those years and had never forgotten her!)

and the other winner is ...

luna, who said ... This would totally help with the deco at the reception, and we can reuse at home. I also tweeted about this (@luna621)!

Congrats to both of you and you will be hearing from UPrinting soon!

Combination style script at SD Calligraphy

Rainy day

Sep 9, 2009

I remember constantly checking the weather reports as our wedding day approached and wishing and hoping and praying for a sunny day. And while I'm glad we ended up having a beautifully clear day, I don't think a few raindrops would have made it any less special. So if there's rain in your wedding day forecast, don't fret. At the end of the day, you'll still be married to your love and if you embrace the showers, you could even end up with fun and gorgeous photos like these.

I love the idea of having a bumble set aside just in case of rain and this adorable Rain Rain Go Away umbrella from Felix Rey would just be too cute for couple portraits:

And if you decide to purchase this sweet Felix Rey umbrella, I have a treat for you! Save 20% by using code FRTCB20 at checkout! {Valid until September 24th}

Are you planning ahead for a rainy day?
